Alcor Micro Begins Mass Production of Third Generation USB KVM Controller chips, P/N AU9226 & P/N AU9228

Alcor Micro announces its third generation USB KVM Switch Controller chips, P/N AU9226 (1 KVM port to 2 PCs) and the AU9228 (1 KVM port to 4 PCs). These two highly integrated single chip USB KVM controlle chips offer OEM users the possibility of sharing keyboard, mouse and monitor among up to four PCs. The third generation KVM switch controller improves switching efficiency and reduces equipment costs by integrating many of the external components, creating a simplified, low cost implementation for a KVM product solution.

To provide the highest speed control, Alcor Micro’s third generation USB KVM controller chip integrates a Micro Processing Unit (MPU) with a USB controller to improve switching port efficiency & speed to support high resolution KVM support. Users no longer need to wait for delayed switching function times to switch between ports. These two highly integrated single chip solutions (AU9226 & the AU9228) enable the lowest possible BOM costs for OEM manufacturers to produce USB KVM products, either stand alone or integrated within flat panel monitors or other product applications. Moreover, both the AU9226 and AU9228 provide an externally accessible I²C MPU, which allows OEM manufacturers to expand product control functions by customizing/compiling the firmware according to specific customer requirements.

The AU9226 and AU9228 controllers use USB as their main transport interface of both upstream and downstream ports. These two controllers support both “panel button” and “hot key” functions to switch between PCs. When the system switches, the AU9226/AU9228 support an audio beep as a user notification and error detection. There is no longer any need to install any device drivers under Windows, Macintosh, Linux, FreeBSD and Sun system when using the AU9226/AU9228 chip solutions. In addition, both KVM controller chips support “auto-scan” mode for users to monitor PCs simply and also the PS/2 keyboard is supported as well.

In consideration of Alcor’s high level chip integration, simplified additional BOM requirements, low cost and extensive product testing; Alcor Micro’s third generation USB KVM controller chip offering is the best integrated & lowest total product cost KVM chip solution on the market.
