USB 2.0 Web Camera Single Chip image controller offers an ultra low cost solution

Alcor Micro Corp. announces 2 new USB 2.0 Web Camera image controller chips, & both solutions follow Alcor’s long history of supplying the market with low cost, integrated function, single chip USB peripheral controller chip solutions. Both the AU3820 and AU3830 USB 2.0 back-end image controllers are designed for built-in image/DSP functionality for low cost/medium resolution Web Cam applications in notebooks and external web cams—just put one of Alcor’s new image controller chips together with a low cost industry standard CMOS image sensor to create an ultra low cost web camera module solution. The Alcor AU3820 and AU3830 controller series come with Alcor’s newest industry-leading image processing engine, which provides high quality DSP image performance, including crystal clear color, high saturation color and very high quality, low light level performance. The AU3820 controller also contains an image compression engine, which delivers low image lag and supports high quality image sensors up to 1.3 Mega pixels.

Both the AU3820 and AU3830 image controllers offer full tested compliance for the VISTA 32/64 DTM test and USB-IF certification. Both controllers support the USB VIDEO CLASS standard as well support multiple operating systems such as VISTA32/64 and Windows XP SP2, totally ‘driver free’, which allows plug & play compatibility to be built in!. Alcor Micro Corp also provides additional drivers, which supports the latest operating systems VISTA 32/64, Windows XP SP1/SP2 and Windows 2000/SP4. This new additional driver comes with the Text Animation function, which provides users multiple choices when using MSN, YAHOO messenger, and SKYPE applications integrated with Alcor’s WEB cam image controller product.

The AU3820 and AU3830 controller series also provide a power saving/green Sleep Mode function for notebooks, which control the built-in Video devices to enter sleep mode and consume only 300 uA when not processing images. Alcor is one of the first to bring this power management feature to the notebook web camera application market, with the lowest power consumption available for video camera devices. This green power saving feature was designed as part of the Alcor image controller chips to support the OEM notebook market, and continue Alcor’s commitment to single chip, full feature, high value & energy conscious solutions. Most Alcor chips feature low power , high performance ‘Green’ energy conscious modes.

The AU3820 and AU3830 image controller series offer multiple package choices such as LQFP 7 mm x 7 mm, WQFN 6 mm x 6 mm, and QFN 6.5 mm x 4.5 mm which allow OEM design applications to choose the right ‘light/ultra light’ packaging configuration without sacrificing functionality. Of course, all Alcor products are RoHS compliant & we also offer Halogen-free packages.
